Cast Notes and New Performance Photographs

Robert Hall: "I love the theater, not only because it brings so much pleasure to this weary world, but, for me, acting on stage is a chance to step out of the old repetitious Robert play and step into a whole new production, if only for a short time.  What a relief!"

Jeanne Rogers: Jeanne began acting in 1975 as a way to overcome shyness. From Ado Annie in “Oklahoma” to various roles In Shakespeare Northwest to a featured extra in the film, “What the Bleep Do We Know?” she experienced the freedom of becoming a different personality on stage. She currently devotes her time to painting, writing, teaching Argentine Tango and is quick to add that she is as excited as a tick in hound’s ear to be cast as Vivien Leigh in “And Then There Was Nun.”

Donna Schultz: After many years in Colorado, retired to our Todos Santos community in 2010. High on her bucket list was a chance to act - and "checkmark" - she played the Wicked Witch of the West in last year's production of The Wizard Of Oz with a Todos Santos  Twist. Her prior acting experience- "My life, it's seen more drama than Broadway! A huge thank you to Luna Azul Productions and my fellow thespians for their guidance and support - they made my dream come true!"

Valma Brenton lives in Las Playitas near Todos Santos.  She is intuitive, creative, enthusiastic and fun.  Valma has been involved in both the creative and healing arts since she was very young.  She is a successful writer, author and photographer. In between her creative pursuits she is often traveling around the world creating unique life adventures for women. She plays the part of Marilyn Monroe.

Isabel Smyth: Has been performing in, writing and directing plays most of her adult life - across Canada for 30 yeas, and in Baja for over 10 years.   Now with the addition of their own theater ''Teatro Luna Azul' more dreams are possible and can include all kinds of people, including the local Baja community. She is honored to play Kathryn Hepburn, who was such a ground breaking role model for women in her time.

Miriam Sanchez: Miriam has been in the music business most of her life, producing concert events and promoting musicians. She owned a recording studio in New York and Rosarito Mexico, and did a little community theater in her younger days.  She is looking forward to her debut as Hattie here in Todos Santos.

Anita Harris:"I always knew I should have bee an actress, but work always got in the way! My acting career got started thanks to a couple of gin and tonic's which gave me the courage to enter a raffle at the Hotel California where I won an acting workshop with Isabel Smyth. I then starred in two short plays and fame went to my head! My next roll was as Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz with a Todos Twist. By then I was hooked and now I'm playing the part of Gloria Swanson and sure having lots of fun.

Vickie Butler: Vickie's previous acting experience consisted of two plays during her senior year of high school, and a one-act two years ago. As the Director’s Assistant (“Little Slave Girl”) during the highly acclaimed Wizard of Oz with a Todos Twist, Vickie loved her behind-the-scenes work with the cast and crew. Memorizing lines as Joan Crawford and collaborating with this year’s outstanding NUN ensemble has further increased her admiration for the art and craft of acting!

Marilyn Martin: Marilyn's stage experience began with drama class, in her freshman year of college, back in Connecticut.  Then....25 years later, it happened in Sun Valley, where she played the part of a wicked governess in an Agatha Christie mystery, followed by a small speaking part as the taxi driver in "Harvey".  And now, this is her debut with Blue Moon Productions as Judy Garland.

Kat Wilson, a 20 year southern Baja native admits she hasn't been on a stage in 40 years, since high school, but is looking forward to 'busting out' again as Mae West. You can catch her other act on Saturday mornings selling her hand painted tiles, alternating between San Jose organic market and our great & growing Cañada del Diabolo market.

Pat Raines: Beginning at age 16, Pat strutted her stuff on local stages of her hometown of Adrian, Michigan doing many fashion shows.  After winning a county title to compete in the Miss Michigan Pageant. Lots of stage experience but now her acting debut - her favorite actress happens to be Bette Davis.

Movie Stars “Visit” Todos Santos!!
By Vickie Butler
Beginning December 16-17, the magical town of Todos Santos will host movie legends Alfred Hitchcock, Hattie, Vivien Leigh, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Tallulah Bankhead, Gloria Swanson, Katherine Hepburn, Mae West, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe in the on-stage murder mystery And Then There Was Nun by Bruce W. Gilray and Richard T. Witter. With a laugh-filled mixture of fact, fiction and fun, the play promises to keep audiences riveted & rollicking as one by one the nuns of the Holy Order of the Sisters of San Andreas are killed off.  Who is committing the murders?  Who will be next?
Director/actress Isabel Smyth enthuses. “Our cast of experienced and novice actors is creating a contagious and exciting energy with their flamboyant characterizations and over-the-top interactions.” Joining Smyth on stage are Robert Hall, Anita Harris and Donna Schultz from last season’s highly acclaimed The Wizard of Oz with a Todos Twist.  Jeanne Rogers, Miriam Sanchez, Pat Raines, Vickie Butler, Kat Wilson, Marilyn Martin, and Valma Brenton round out the enthusiastic group of thespians.

"THRIVE" A documentary movie

"THRIVE"

A documentary style movie
At Teatro Luna Azul

FRIDAY, December 2, 2011
Doors open at 6:30pm
Movie starts at 7pm
By Donation

Popcorn, light snacks and drinks available.

Stay after the movie for a lively discussion about the film
Interestingly, Foster Gamble is a direct descendent of the Proctor & Gamble
empire. I ask him some pretty pointed questions regarding his unbiased ability
to shine a light on the unsustainable nature of our financial systems while
obviously coming from a 'financially elite' family as described in the film...
and his response is fascinating.

I find THRIVE to be a timely and relevant film, and a critically important artifact for our times. While I don't expect all of you to agree with everything in the movie (as I am sure it will be controversial), I believe it is worth checking out and listening to our interview because THRIVE's perspective certainly provides a few important things to consider.
In the end, it is up to ALL of us to decide how we can reach the Tipping Point and thrive together in our world...

You can rent it for 48 hours for $5.00 and watch it on you computer at http://www.thrivemovement.com
We all will not agree with or accept every one of Gamble's positions, but he has raised mountains of issues that demand public consideration and debate. It is a world-changing work, a life-altering body of information, and hopefully has arrived in cyberspace just in time, if the world's populations get equally informed and equipped to act en masse to throw the tapeworms out of the belly of our universe.

What a great testament to the power of diet, and lifestyle in transforming our lives.
Forget the drugs, what Frank has done is to prove that Big Pharma's grasp is too tight
and helped to keep him sick all those years. Congratulations, Frank and the friends who
helped him become a true success story!

About the Film:

Frank Ferrante is a 54 year old Sicilian from Brooklyn living in San Francisco.  A lover of life, great food, beautiful women and a good laugh, Frank is also a drug addict, morbidly obese, pre-diabetic, and fighting Hepatitis C. He’s estranged from his daughter, single, and struggling with depression. Frank knows that life can be better than this, and is looking for a way out.
May I Be Frank documents the transformation of Frank Ferrante’s life. He unknowingly stumbles into a local restaurant in San Francisco, Café Gratitude, a raw, organic and vegan café. As he becomes friends with the staff, he keeps returning to the café where he feels welcomed and free from his collapsing personal life. On one such visit, Frank is asked by Ryland, one of the servers, “What is one thing you want to do before you die?” Frank replies “I want to fall in love one more time, but no one will love me looking the way I do.”
Inspired by the possibility of helping Frank, Ryland invites him to come into the café everyday for the next month. Armed with a camera and a wide open heart, Ryland soon enrolls his brother Cary, and Conor, his best friend, to participate in supporting Frank’s transformation. The final agreement is made that for the next 42 days, Frank will turn his life over to three twenty-something young men committed to his healing and prepared to coach him physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Frank will eat only raw food, practice gratitude, visit local holistic practitioners, and get a weekly colonic.  Ryland, Conor, and Cary get to support and witness Frank’s miraculous transformation.  Frank gets a new body, a clearer mind, and most importantly, a soaring spirit.
Over those 42 days, the four men go on the ride of their lives.  Setting out to help Frank lose weight and get healthy, no one anticipated the profound impact this journey would have on the lives of countless others.  Through Frank’s story of love, redemption, and transformation, the viewers witness the power of change for themselves and the world.  May I Be Frank documents the essence of the human condition and what it truly means to fall in love again.
