Best Exotic Movie Night
at Teatro Luna Azul

Friday October 19
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of British retirees who decide to "outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.
Dinner at 6pm
We're going to India this Friday, so join us before the movie for a delicious Indian curry dinner with buttery curry chicken.  The rain has stopped, the roads are fine, life is good. Movie at sunset. By donation.

Movie Night at Teatro Luna Azul

Friday Oct. 13

Based on a real-life relationship, the odd couple of this film, - a millionaire paralyzed in a paragliding accident, and a street hood by way of Senegal. White, black; rich, poor; immobile and extremely animated— are opposite in nearly every way
Without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable movies of the last decade. No exaggeration! This ranks as the second highest grossing film in French cinematic history.  This extremely well-written screenplay mixes as much humor as we have seen in several years with a poignancy and tenderness that is also very heartwarming. Do not hesitate for a minute if you want to thoroughly enjoy yourself.

Dinner is Boeuf Bourguignon, and of course a vegetarian special is always on the menu.  Dinner starts at 6pm, please RSVP.  Movie at sunset.  By donation.

Movie Night

at

Teatro Luna Azul

Friday October 3rd

"2012: Time for Change" presents an optimistic alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee João Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling '2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl', on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with scientific method.  Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 heralds the birth of a regenerative planetary culture where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink.
Raul is making fresh homemade Prima Vera pasta (vegetarian) and his ever popular Bolognesa sauce.   Dinner starts at 6pm.  Please RSVP.   Movie starts at sunset (around 7:30pm) by donation.

Auditions for 'Return of the Light'

This year is our 10th anniversary doing plays in Baja and we have something special planned.  In December we will put on an original play "Return of the Light" that will coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar.  We need a village' of characters, so come out on Saturday October 13 at 2pm to Teatro Luna Azul to be a part of the play, or to help with the behind the scenes creation.  We will be making masks and oversized puppets as part of the process, so if you think you might like working in clay and paper mache contact us to join in on the play days.

Marley

A Documentary on the Life, Music and Legacy of Bob Marley

This spellbinding documentary about cultural icon Bob Marley, whose life has been recounted countless times, is clearly up to the task. ‘Marley’ offers an expansive and fascinating perspective on the man through interviews with his fellow former Wailers, including Jimmy Cliff, his family and good friends. The film is fairly detailed concerning Marley’s songwriting and musicianship from his early ska days up through the release of Catch a Fire. After this it focuses more on his personal life, conversion to Rastafarianism, the tumultuous state of Jamaican politics, and his charismatic personality—all of which are important elements of the artist’s character.
Marley, which is a beautifully shot documentary (the Jamaican locations are impressive), begins not in the Caribbean, but in West Africa. Vintage concert performances are peppered liberally throughout the film, showcasing Marley as a whirling dervish of spinning dreadlocks, possessed of an energy that feels boundless.
There are so many things to say about someone so profoundly interesting and influential as Bob Marley. You just have to see the Movie.

Come early for a Jamaican spicy rub dinner of grilled veggies for the vegetarians, and grilled jerk meat, all at amazing prices. Dinner starts at 6pm (RSVP to bluemooninbaja@yahoo.com)   Movie starts at sunset 7:30PM.

Dirt!  The Movie

A look at man’s relationship with dirt.  We started our journey together as stardust, swirled by cosmic forces into our galaxy, solar system, and planet. We are made of the same stuff. Four billion years of evolution created dirt as the living source of all life on Earth including humans. Dirt has given us food, shelter, fuel, medicine, ceramics, flowers, cosmetics and color –everything needed for our survival.

Winner of several awards including the Sundance Festival,  Dirt! The Movie is an insightful and timely film that tells the story of the glorious and unappreciated material beneath our feet.

Everybody Knows... Leonard Cohen

Friday August 10 at Teatro Luna Azul we will be showing Leonard Cohen in Concert in London, a brilliant show of his latest tour in Europe.

A one of a kind singer-songwriter, musician, poet, Leonard Cohen has been pleasing audiences worldwide with his stunningly creative lyrics and melodies for over four decades.  His songs are really poems that stand the test of time.

Second only to Bob Dylan (and perhaps Paul Simon) in terms of influence, he commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the 1960s who is still working at the outset of the 21st century.

Included in both the American and Canadian Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Cohen was recently honored alongside Chuck Berry as the recipients of the first annual PEN Awards for songwriting excellence in February 2012.

Famous renditions of his songs have been done by Joe Cocker, Judy Collins, Rita Coolidge, Elton John, Neil Diamond,  Joan Baez, Don Henley,  Dion, Sting, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.

Leonard Cohen on himself: "I don't consider myself a pessimist at all. I think of a pessimist as someone who is waiting for it to rain. And I feel completely soaked to the skin."

Special Thai dinner at 6:30pm, movie at sunset.

Blue Moon This Month

Movie Night "Under African Skies"

This Friday we will be showing a wonderful movie that commemorates Paul Simon's most profound work - "Graceland" - which combined Simon's poetry and arrangements to what was to the Western world a new style of music - African Highlife.  "Under African Skies"celebrates the 25th anniversary of Simon's trip to South Africa to find the musicians who were playing this exciting, rhythm based music that inspired him so. The movie uses original footage that shows the creative process of recording the album along with their performances in Africa.  Highlights of interviews from then and now of all the great African musicians who played with Paul Simon; his struggles with the Black and White apartheid issue, and his willingness to see his way through all that to create a fusion of music that is still as fresh and exciting today as it was 25 years ago. So come on over to Teatro Luna Azul this Friday July 27 and enjoy dinner and a movie with us.  We will be doing a special grill night, with roasted veggie's on a bed of rice, and for the meat lovers, ribs on the grill with Raul's incredible BBQ sauce.  And of course fresh organic salads, and homemade mango pie, all at great prices! Dinner starts at 6:30pm, movie at Sunset. Because of road construction, when you go to the Otra Lado, drive past La Esquinna And turn right on the detour road before Pinos Mercado. This will bring you up to Camino Playitas. Follow north to Camino Cielo, turn lefto on Cielo towards to Ocean. At the bottom of the hill turn right at Las Liebres.

Movie Night Friday, April 20th "I AM"

Friday April 20th

Teatro Luna Azul

I AM

We are showing a really interesting and inspiring movie this Friday April 20th.

'I Am' (or) 'The Shift Has Hit the Fan'
is a documentary style movie
by Director/Producer Tom Shadyac.

His near death experience caused him to want to do something more meaningful than his comedy movies
( which were blockbuster comedies like Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty)

Shadyac set out on a twenty-first century quest for enlightenment, meeting  with a variety of thinkers and doers–remarkable men and women from the worlds of science, philosophy, academia, and faith–including such luminaries as David Suzuki, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Archbishop Desmond Tutu to name a few.

What he ended up with is a fresh, energetic, inspiring film that challenges our preconceptions about human behavior, while celebrating the indomitable human spirit.

Doors open at 6pm for our great pasta dinner special, with fresh homemade Marinera or Bolognese sauce
(vegetarian or meat)    The  bar will be open!

Movie starts at sunset.  By donation.

Coming April, 2012, legendary percussionist Cyro Baptista (Sting, John Zorn, Yo-Yo Ma) and Neo jazz-rock burners A Love Electric will combine for a tour of Mexico that will serve as part philanthropy, part record release, and part creation. For two weeks, A Love Electric (Clouser, Hecht, Cruz, Aanderud, Allen) and Cyro will be traveling through the country, providing workshops to area youth, performing in some of Mexico's most celebrated venues, and recording two pieces of music highlighting their interaction with children of all socioeconomic backgrounds and experience as "musicians". Each performance will feature a set of music from Cyro (40 min), a set of A Love Electric (60 min), and culminate in a collaborative performance (20 min). Workshops will take place throughout the tour at selected schools, culture and charity centers, and feature an engaging, inclusive, and spirited opportunity for all children to discover and develop their own voice through sound.  The tour confronts the traditional model of bands out on the road, leaving behind a "perform and sell" approach for an interactive experience for communities as well as the musicians, all working towards the creation of the final product of new music.
Since arriving in the U.S. in 1980 from his native country Brazil, Cyro Baptista has emerged as one of the premier percussionists in the United States and abroad. Coinciding with the rise in the public’s interest of world music, Cyro has managed to record and tour with some of music’s most popular names. His mastery of Brazilian percussion and the many instruments he creates himself, have catapulted him into world renown.
With his own project, the percussion and dance ensemble known as 'Beat the Donkey' Cyro gives free reign to his imagination, mixing his tremendous musical skills, his natural humor and theatrical ways with instruments from Brazil, Middle East, Indonesia, Africa and US.
Cyro's credits read like a "Who’s Who" of modern music. He toured extensively with Yo-Yo Ma's Brazil Project, Trey Anastasio's Band (of Phish), John Zorn's Electric Masada, Herbie Hancock's Grammy award winning "Gershwin’s World" , Sting and Paul Simon's "Rhythm of the Saints". (www.cyrobaptista.com)

A Love Electric embodies the international spirit of the creative music scene, featuring players from Mexico, the United States, and Argentina, touring throughout Latin America, the USA, and Europe. The band, led by guitarist Todd Clouser, and their unique brand of groove inflected jazz rock have risen from a small club act to being signed by renowned Ropeadope Records and on to Royal Potato Family Records (New York, NY) in just one year. The A Love Electric concert is a must see for any fan of creative music, the 5 musicians, all masters of their craft, creating an energy explorative and driving. The infectious live show has taken A Love Electric to stages from Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, CA to Jazz Dock in Prague, Czech Republic to Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.
A Love Electric will be releasing two new records as part of the tour, the cover's-centered "20th Century Folk Selections, featuring songs by 60's protest singer Malvina Reynolds to the Beastie Boys, and the all-original "Entre". Both albums feature Cyro Baptista as a guest. (www.aloveelectric.com)
