Did you ever want to run off and join the Circus? Well you don’t have to run any farther than our backyard here in Todos Santos. Teatro Luna Azul will be hosting a Beginner Circus/Acrobatic Workshop that will help total novices discover their Circus skills.
For two afternoons (Saturday April 16 and Sunday April 17, 2011) two highly skilled and talented Acrobatists, Dulce Chavez from Mexico and Katjusa Kovacic from Eastern Europe will be teaching partners acrobatics (two people balancing one above the other), floor acrobatics (Basic tumbling, handstand and stretching) aerial acrobatics on the hoop and silks. There will also be some theater skills taught by Director Isabel Smyth to help budding performers create characters and improve their overall performance. Everything within a safe and professional environment.
Both Dulce and Katjusa received their training from the ‘National Chinese Circus School in Beijing’, where they originally met and performed.
Come have fun and enjoy this unique mix of European and Mexican styles that also incorporates Chinese Fundamentals.
Who is Dulce Chavez?
Dulce is a talented 28 years old, who has been performing circus skills for more than 9 years all over the World.
Dulce started to develop her circus skills in Mexico practicing and performing with different fire toys. She travelled to Europe with her company, ‘Eyetrick’ during the summers to present shows in many countries like Spain, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Greece, Austria, Germany, Holland, Hungary, France and Switzerland. Here she learned acrobatics at the juggling conventions and festivals with other International artists. This motivated her to reach to a higher artistic and professional level. She travelled to China and went to the ‘Beijing International Arts School’ and studied with ‘The National Chinese Circus Troop’ for 3 years. There she learned partner acrobatics, aerial acrobatics and Chinese juggling. Following her education, Dulce was selected to perform in a circus in south China in 2008 and a slovenian circus in 2009 with a solo aerial act.
During this time Dulce continued to perform in Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming, Chengdu, Batou and throughout Europe with her company. She won several awards for best show while Touring Europe.
Last year Dulce chose Todos Santos as a home base. She is working as a solo performer under the name ‘AMAYA’ producing her new cabaret show which will be presented again this summer in Austria.
In the meantime she performs around the area in la Paz, Todos Santos and Cabo, holding circus Workshops for kids and adults bringing a new cultural activity to the region.
Dulce belives that: “The better you know how your body works, the better you know how the universe works and this knowledge never ends…”.
Who is Katjusa Kovacic?
KATJUŠA KOVAČIČ je končala šolo akrobatike v Pekingu na Kitajskem. Kot aktivna capoeiristka združuje virtuoznost giba z uporabnostjo, ter išče nove izrazne možnosti akrobatike v gledališču in plesu.

Directions to Teatro Luna Azul in Las Tunas
From central Todos Santos, take Topete off of the main street Benito Juarez. (Turn at Restaurante Tres Galline).
Then at Calle
Horizonte turn left and go northwest on the paved road. At tienda Los Pinos it turns into a dirt road. Stay to the right as the road curves, then up a fewl bumpy hills past the store “Mercado El Sol II” on Las Playitas/Camino Pacifico. Continue about a half mile, past a small store on left with a Blue Pacifico sign to Calle Los Mangos.
Turn left on Calle Los Mangos and follow this road as it winds down towards the ocean. Look for signs leading you to the theater. Turn right on calle Estrellas to the end. At the corrner by the mequite tree turn right by a blue gray house. Follow the lane (sin salida) past a chili field on left, and continue to parking area by our gate.
